Step by Step Instructions

ASSEMBLY, MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS

I bet you never thought you could ever install a ceiling fan all by yourself did you. It really is not that difficult and I will try my best to help with that here.

The first thing we need to do is to turn off the power leading to the fixture we are working on by turning off the circuit breaker.

First get a ladder and then remove the globe and light bulbs from the ceiling. Take out mounting screws to remove the light fixture
Use a wire tester and touch each wire to make sure there is no power to wires

Detach the light fixture revealing three or four wires, including a bare ground, hot black, a neutral white,
There might be an Optional red wire if you want to have two light switches to work the light and another to start the fan. If not that’s fine to.

I will describe how to wire for each situation. (switch controlled or chain controlled)

For safety make sure the electrical box in the ceiling is mounted securely on a cross member which is attached to a ceiling joint or 2X4. If it is not find the joint and mount the fan there.

There should be holes for screws in the electrical box on the ceiling to mount your mounting bracket to this cross member.

Remove hardware (screws and washers) from the mounting bracket of the new fan asembly. This bracket might come with a newly purchased fan or you might need to purchase it separately.

Next feed all of the wires from the ceiling through the center hole of the mounting bracket.
Secure the mounting bracket to the electrical box through the cross member in the ceiling by using deck screws.

Now remove all the fan blade screws from the motor that will run the fan and set aside for now.
We will attach them later.

Hang the motor bracket on to the J Hook that is attached to the bracket you just put up on the ceiling.

Here is how to wire the fan unit if you are using the chain to power the fan and the switch just turns on the light.

Connect the black line from the ceiling is wired together with the black motor line and the blue light line from the unit.

Connect together the two white neutral wires.

Then connect together the green wires to the bare ground wire from the ceiling.

If you have the wiring installed for running the fan and lights on separate light switches then here is how to wire that together.

Connect the blue light wire from the unit to the red wire coming from the ceiling.
Connect the black wire (labelled motor) from the unit to the black wire coming from the ceiling.
Connect the all the green wires together and then connect them to the bare ground wire which comes from the ceiling.
Connect the white neutral wire from the unit to the white wire from the ceiling.

Make sure all connections are secured using wire nuts and also electrical tape.

Coil and tuck the wires up in between the motor and the bracket up on the ceiling.

Align the motor assembly holes with the threaded mounting bolts on the mounting bracket.
Then secure by using the washers and nuts supplied. Use a socket wrench to tighten but be mindful as to not over tighten the screws.

Next we will install the motor housing to cover up all those screws and make it look pretty.

There are screws on the side of the mounting bracket on the ceiling which fit into a sliding slot and holes in the housing cover.
Once lined up just use a screwdriver to tighten the screws on the bracket and again make sure as not to over tighten.

Next secure the blade arms in place using screws and screwdriver.

Next we install the light fixture by simply plugging and aligning into the wires coming out of the motor, aligning black to blue and white to white.

Once connected tuck all the wires into the switch housing and screw the light fixture into the motor housing by lining up the holes and securing with screws. Again, watch how tight they are.

Once all the screws are in place you can screw in the light bulbs. The end is in site.

Next attach the globe to cover the bulbs.

The final step is to attach the fan blades to the holders using the washers and screws and tighten with a screw driver making them secure but not overly tight.

Check to make sure all is secure and then go back and turn on the power breaker again.

Turn on the light switch to make sure all is working.

Adjust fan speed with the pull chains and you can also change the fan rotation with the opposite chain. Make sure the fan is stopped before changing direction.

So as you can see this is a project that was not to difficult. I am sure you have seen ceiling fans in homes before and now you can proudly say that you have one in your home that you put up all by yourself.

You can change the speed of the fan making the air circulate quicker and make the room cooler much faster.

Also by changing the direction of the fan you can have the air flowing directly in a downward direction or make the air flow out toward the sides and the walls to make a circular direction pushing hot air away from the ceiling and helping to push cooler air up through the middle of the room.

Congratulations you have just made your home a more comfortable place to hang out.
